Ethan Jeffrey Has Arrived!

Monday morning, September 6th 2010 @ 8:48 am we officially became a family of 4 when Ethan made his big debut into the world! The last couple of days have been the typical whirlwind that one can expect after having a baby, but I wanted to take a moment to update the blog with my birth story! My labor and delivery could not have been more picture perfect. I went into the hospital Sunday night and received a dose of medication to help ripen my cervix around 8pm. I progressed to 4 cm by 1 am and got my epidural. They did have trouble inserting the epidural because of my back surgery and I had to have it done twice, with a total of 5 needle sticks (YIKES!) but once it was in, it worked amazingly well! My water broke around 4:30, and my diagnosis of low fluid was accurate--there was just a small amount. I was 7 cm at 6:30. Around 8:30, I started feeling a little pressure and was ready to push! I pushed 4 or 5 times and he was born! It was just almost too easy! But the most wonderful part of it all was the healthy screaming baby boy that came out! He had 9/9 apgars and weighed in at 6 lbs 13 oz, just one ounce more than Ayden! He was 19 inches long. I started crying with joy the moment I saw him and thanking God that he was healthy. I am still in awe at how overwhelmingly blessed I am to have 2 healthy children! My mom and Jenny were in the room with Chris and I to welcome Ethan into the world. I was so happy to have these 2 special people there with us and Jenny took so many wonderful pictures! Soon after the birth, my dad brought Ayden into the room and the moment I had been waiting for since I found out I was pregnant arrived- seeing Ayden's reaction to his new little brother! It even more precious and memorable than I could have dreamed, Ayden immediately reached out his arms to hold Ethan and my mommy heart just filled with joy! Uncle Nick and Aunt Brandy and Aunt Amy and Uncle Frank were also there to meet Ethan!

I could go on and on about how wonderful the entire experience was, but I have a new baby to breastfeed! We got to come home when Ethan was 24 hours old and are both doing well. Breastfeeding seems to be going better this time around, for which I am very thankful! Ayden is thriving in his role as big brother, he could not be more proud! He was so protective of Ethan at the hospital, when anyone came into the room he would say, "No! don't take Ethan!" I hope he stays this crazy about him! :)

Anyway LOTS of pics to come...but Ethan is calling for me!
