Mother's Day 2011

I had an absolutely wonderful Mother's Day! I told Chris last night it was pretty much what I would call a "perfect" day. The weather was beautiful, actually it was almost hot, but you won't hear me complaining!! We started the day by attending church as a family for the first time in a very long time. We have always intended to be involved in church, especially once we started our family, but we just haven't made it a priority since I have worked weekends for so long. With Ayden getting older we both realized we were making a huge parenting mistake by not raising him in church like we were. Chris and I were both saved and baptized when we were younger and were raised with a strong Christian foundation and always agreed we wanted to raise our children the same way. I have just been feeling such conviction lately that we haven't followed through with this. So, with that being said, we finally made it a priority and went to church yesterday! I normally work 2 Sundays a month, and Chris says he will take the kids even when I'm working, so I am looking forward to this being a new tradition for our family and pray that we will all grow closer in our walk with the Lord.

The service was about the importance of raising children in a Christian home, which we felt was very appropriate since that is one of the main things that brought us to church! The pastor quoted one of our favorite authors, Dr. James Dobson, and two of his books, "The Strong-willed Child" and "Dare to Discipline" (both of which we own and have read) in his sermon, along with several scriptural references to the importance of discipline. It was very affirming for us to hear a message so in line with how we believe in disciplining our children, and the overall message of it being our responsibility as parents to discipline our children and to raise them in a Godly and loving home was really good for us to hear on our first visit to church in such a long time. To us, it was a sign that we were in the right place! Also, everyone was very friendly and welcoming and Ayden really enjoyed children's church. Ethan enjoyed the music and then a nap in mommy's arms during the service :)

After church, we went out for Mexican food at one of our favorite restaurants where all mothers got a free enchilada lunch! Then we headed back home to give Ethan a nap and my parents stopped by for a visit on their way home from Eureka Springs. After Ethan woke up, we headed to the Spring Spanker Creek craft festival for some family fun! It was such a fun day!! My gifts were extra special this year because Ayden really got into it and understood he was doing something special for mommy, which made me cry! I am abundantly blessed to be the mother of these precious boys!!!

My gifts!

A handmade painted photo box made by Ayden and Chris, with candy and a

sweet poem inside that read,

"This is a very special box for a very special mother. The reason

it's so special, it's from me and my brother.

It's filled with hugs and kisses, as sweet as homeade pies.

Just hold the box close to your heart,

and think of your little guys" :)

I also got a sweet card from the boys and a very

funny coffee mug from my mom that says,

"It's been lovely, but I have to scream now"

LOL! :)
