Thanksgiving 2011

We had a fun, busy 5 day visit in Mena for Thanksgiving this past week! Ayden and Ethan got to spend time with their cousins and Ethan and Hollister got to finally meet! It seems like yesterday that Ayden and Guice were the little babies crawling all over the floor...and now they are big 4 year old boys! I cooked a lot of the food this year for my family's meal, so there wasn't much time for a ton of pics, but here is what I've got!

Sweet cousins!

Ayden update!

I have not blogged specifically about Ayden in awhile, though he does and says enough for his own blog post each day! I never want to forget some of the things he does and says at 4 years old, so here goes!

-He has got to be one of the funniest children who has ever lived. (I know everyone thinks their child is funny, and I'm sure they are too!) There are countless times in a day where he makes me laugh out loud, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not.

-He is creative and thoughtful with every word that comes out of his mouth. He is still a perfectionist and must tell a story with exact details and will start completely over if he leaves so much as one adjective out. I am not even kidding. He loves to talk!!

- Every night, without fail, he puts up resistance at bedtime. He hates going to bed. He hates the dark, scared of monsters, etc. He starts objecting when it starts to get dark outside, before anyone has ever even mentioned the word bedtime. He will notice the sun setting and say, "is it getting dark? is it getting dark, mom?" If I say yes, he will immediately start saying, "I don't want to go to bed!" Tonight as it was getting dark and he asked me and I said yes, it's getting dark, he said, "well, maybe its just gonna rain" He begs to sleep with us every night, but usually starts out in his own bed. He ends up in ours by 2 am 99.9% of the time. Honestly, we are okay with it, because we know its just a phase of life that he will outgrow and we will miss our snuggles with him (but not the kicks in the ribs :)

-When we put him in bed, he will say, "I'm scared, who will protect me?" I always tell him daddy and mommy are just downstairs and Jesus will protect him. A couple of nights ago he said with tear-filled eyes, "Jesus gets cranky if he has to stay up late to protect me". This is just ONE example of millions of things this child says that cracks us up!!

-He is still extremely picky and will only eat certain foods, won't try new foods, etc. It's really annoying if I do say so myself. He gets to choose his breakfast and lunch, but for supper he is only offered the family meal. He almost never eats it and has gone down a pants size from going to bed without supper. (seriously) But he was wearing huskys and now regular so I guess it's ok ;) Some nights I let it slide, but last night I was determined he was going to eat the Chicken Spaghetti I cooked. It's cheese and noodles! C'mon kid! He refused, I kept insisting, he vomited, I got angry, he cried, and in the middle of his post-vomiting crying fiasco, he stopped and looked at me and through his tears and snubbing said, "Momma....do you know what I am thankful for? You". So then I cried. Chris laughed and Ethan watched the whole thing while shoving his chicken spaghetti in his mouth as fast as he could. It was a scene!!!! He knows how to get to his momma!!

-Speaking of which, he is a momma's boy, and I mean that in a good way!! He still loves to sit on my lap, snuggle, and hug me. He will play with my hair while I read him books, and tell me he loves me and wants to marry me and take me on a date to Chuck E Cheese. He randomly comes up to me several times a day and kisses me on the cheek. He holds doors for me and is such a little gentleman. He is a precious, precious boy!!

-He doesn't have fits or tantrums anymore, which is so very nice. He whines and cries at worst, but is easily stopped when asked. He very, very rarely needs a spanking and only needs time out a couple times a week, and that is usually for being too rough with Ethan or the dogs. He stays on "green" at school and has had zero behavioral issues this year at MDO. We have been using lots of positive reinforcement and it seems to have worked! He is very polite and says please and thank you, yes/no sir and yes/no ma'am. We are very proud of him!

-Now that Ethan is doing more things, Ayden is starting to show some jealousy of the attention Ethan is getting. I know it's normal and we just try to keep the praise and excitement equal for them both. Yes, Ayden, we know you can walk/dance/slide/clap, etc. Lol :)

-Finally, I will close with Ayden's bedtime prayer tonight. It is the same every night, until tonight. It started with his usual:
"Dear Jesus, thank you for my beautiful momma, my handsome daddy, and my adorable (pronounced A-durable) Ethan, and my silly dogs."
Then he got creative with the 2nd half:
"Thank you for our house and our food, thank you for our lightbulbs, and for helping me count to 19, climb trees, and drive boats. In Jesus name, Amen"

That. boy. is. hilarious!!!

Look Who's (almost) Walking!

Well our stubborn little man, who has been very content crawling, cruising, and being held, has finally started showing some interest in walking! Yesterday he pulled up on his push walker and started walking all over the playroom with it! He has never done that before, he always falls to his knees as soon as it goes forward. He is also standing independently for long periods and walking beside us holding just one hand. It's such an exciting milestone to see our baby boy moving upright!! I know those first independent steps are just around the corner!

Branson and Silver Dollar City!

A couple of weekends ago, we took the boys to Branson with my parents to go to the opening weekend of Silver Dollar City's Christmas fest. We have never been opening weekend- we usually go mid-December when it's freezing, and this time it wasn't 14 degrees, but there were 14 million people there. Okay, maybe not 14 million, but a lot. Regardless, we had a great time and the big crowds were more than worth it to see Ayden's excitement over seeing the amazing lights and the parade. We took him when he was a baby, but this was the first time he has been old enough to really enjoy it. We went early enough that he could ride some rides before dark and he had a blast. Ethan did not have a nap before we went and staying for the parade kept him up past his bedtime, so he was less than thrilled with the whole ordeal and spent the last 2 hours in Pappaw's arms being snuggled :) We also went to the Branson Landing and did some shopping, saw Santa, and went to Build-A-Bear for the first time. It was a very fun weekend that got us all in the Christmas spirit!!

14 Months Old!

He wakes up this happy every morning :)

Our little E-man, you are 14 months old today! This is such a fun age, you are learning so much and SO very busy! Here's a little bit about you at this age:

-You are very active, still the fastest crawler and cruiser we have ever seen. You also love to climb so we have made sure everything is bolted to the wall!
-Your demeanor is happy, calm, and sweet, and you are SUCH a little flirt. I can't get through Walmart without at least 5 people stopping to admire your sweet smile and big blue eyes.
-You love your bed and literally beg to be put to bed if we keep you up too late!
-You have started imitating us and actions such as brushing hair, putting on shoes, etc.
-You have started giving high-fives and you just love doing it!
-You sit and just cackle at your big brother, you think everything he does is hilarious.
-You just got over your first ear infections and had a pretty rough time with it. We're hoping you don't get them as often as Ayden did!
-If we are eating, you want a bite. Haven't found a food yet that you don't like.
-I introduced peanut butter this month and, no surprise, you love it :)
-We are going to start daytime bottle weaning this week. I will give nights another month or so. You are only waking up for a bottle at night about 3-4 nights a week anyway, and only once, so we'll see where you are a month from now.
-You can have a temper, but are easily comforted/distracted and overall are still a very easy baby. You just "go with the flow"

We love you so much! Happy 14 months Little E!

Picture Mania!!!

I have really, really fallen behind on the blogging lately. Also I started a blog makeover and never finished. Alas, it is the life of a working mother with 2 small children! But, the important thing is, I am still taking plenty of pictures! And the main reason for this blog is to archive these precious, if somewhat chaotic, years of our lives. So, today we will not be having a series of clever, well-written blog posts on a cute and well laid out blog, but rather one large post full pics and captions. Someday, when I get a minute, (and a few extra hundred dollars), I will catch up on printing my blog books and be so very glad I made this post full of pics today.

Many of these are taken outside, as we are having a gloriously beautiful fall here in NWA. I literally fall in love with our house and yard everytime I go outside. When I pull up in the driveway, I just sit and stare for 5 or 10 minutes before I go in. I don't think I have ever enjoyed the changing of the leaves as much as I am this year! To have a yard full of trees is so nice!!! (Check back in a few weeks when we are doing leaf-cleanup and see if I feel the same way ;)

We had a fun Halloween weekend and have been enjoying lots of time outside. We attended our first neighborhood block party and met the neighbors which was so much fun! Ethan has been bouncing back from his first ear infection, Ayden has been coughing and rotten but otherwise ok, and I am on the mend with strep throat. Chris still works a thousand hours a week and I am contemplating finding a new job, but currently still working 1-2 nights a week and living in complete and total exhaustion 99% of the time. That's about it with us! Despite the chaos and sickness and exhaustion, I only need to take one look at these pictures to remember I am blessed beyond words. I love these little men SO much!!

This little man loves climbing up on his slide! Getting down is another story ;)

Not so long ago, Ayden was the little one with his binky on the slide...
